abstract
Orange (Citrus reticulata L.) is an important fruit crop in the country, and its global demand is increasing significantly over the past few years. The top orange producing states in India are Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab. This paper highlights the growth and instability in area, production, productivity and export of orange in India. The data regarding area, production, productivity, export quantity and value of orange for the HS Code 08051000(Orange fresh or dried) in India was collected from 2004-05 to 2023-24 which includes 20 years data. The secondary data was gathered from APEDA, DGCIS, Indiastat.com and NHB. Statistical tools like Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) was used for the analysis of growth rate and for variance Coefficient of variation (CV), Cuddy-Della Vella Index and Coppock’s Instability Index were employed. The CAGR revealed that production has the highest growth rate at 10.15%, followed by area at 5.19% and productivity at 4.71% are significant at the 1%. While India’s export quantity and value are 7.89 and 15.34 per cent. Country wise analysis revealed that UAE recorded the highest growth in value at 35.20%, as well as quantity. The CDVI of the area, production, and productivity obtained were 2.14, 2.52 and 2.67 respectively, indicate low instability. While India’s export quantity and value shows 48.83 and 55.01 per cent. Country wise instability analysis of orange export from India revealed that both in terms of value and quantity highest instability was observed for Kuwait followed by UAE.
