Syed Shafat Kubrevi and Quadri Javeed Ahmad Peer
The study was conducted in the high-altitude area of Nyoma block, Leh district, Jammu & Kashmir, during the agricultural year 2023-24. Its goal was to find out the training needs of farmers who grow Oats. A total of 120 farmers were randomly selected from five villages chosen based on specific criteria. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews using a structured and tested questionnaire. The results showed that farmers have significant knowledge gaps, particularly in areas such as land preparation, the proper use of manure and fertilizers, and methods for protecting crops from pests and diseases. These findings showed the urgent need for better support systems and efficient ways to deliver farming inputs. Improving these services through communication that focuses on farmers' needs and training programs will be essential to help them adopt better oat farming techniques and build a more resilient agriculture system in this remote Himalayan area.
