Trishnalee Saikia, Anup Kumar Das and Horindra Gogoi

Garlic is a popular culinary ingredient with many health benefits which include heart health enhancement, immune system support, cholesterol management, cold prevention, and more. Among the 63 different spices that can be grown in the agro-climatic condition of India, garlic is the highest producing spice during 2020-21 followed by ginger, turmeric, chillies and others. Assam ranked sixth in garlic production during the same year among various garlic producing states of India contributing 2.15 percent to the total production of India. Average total cost of garlic cultivation was found to be Rs.3,61,338.00 per hectare, in which variable cost contributed 95.57 per cent. The average productivity of garlic in the sample farms of Dhubri district was found 214.60 quintals per hectare with the gross income and net income of Rs. 12,33,473.73 and Rs. 8,72,135.70.
