Rishi Dev Jaryal, Devraj Jevlya and AK Jhajaria

A study was conducted with an aim to ascertain the factors affecting job satisfaction of and problems faced by the scientists working in two agricultural universities of Rajasthan viz. SKRAU1 and RAJUVAS2, Bikaner, Rajasthan. Variables like Age, Gender, Educational Qualification, Marital Status, Annual Income, Family type, Accommodation, Mode of Transport, Job Experience and Designation were thought of to be the independent variables which might affect an individual’s level of job satisfaction. 67 respondents from SKRAU and 53 from RAJUVAS were taken to constitute a sample of 120 respondents. Responses were elicited with the help of a structured interview schedule and then the association between these variables and job satisfaction level was measured with the help of Chi-square test and correlation coefficient. The results of the study revealed that variables such as age, annual income, marital status, job experience and designation were found to be positively related to the level of job satisfaction. Other variables like gender, educational status, accommodation, mode of transport, family type, background etc. were found to be ineffective in contributing to job satisfaction as evident from their non-significant relationship. As far as the constraints were concerned, Various statements were categorized into four categories namely administrative problems, infrastructural problems, technical problems and work-environment related problems. The results showed that the major constraints being faced by the respondents were: ‘Assignment of unrelated work due to lack of staff’, ‘Multitasking’, ‘Insufficient modern facilities for field work’, ‘Bad condition of the office, labs, classrooms, toilets etc. in the departments’, ‘Lack of audio-visual aids’, ‘Lack of congenial and co-operative environment in the department’ and ‘biasness based on caste.’
