Sensory evaluation of cotton fabric treated with peppermint oil

Madhusmita Tarai, Parul and Nisha Arya

The finishing of cotton fabric with natural essential oils has attracted attention as a sustainable technique to enhance textile functionality. This study evaluates the application of peppermint oil on cotton fabric to determine its impact on sensory qualities. Cotton samples were treated with numerous concentrations of peppermint oil and different methods of application. The samples were assessed by thirty experts under different parameters. The treated samples as compared to the untreated samples showed greater outcomes in appearance, lustre, texture, and aroma. This eco-friendly approach has potential for usage in medical textiles, sporting, and home furnishings, coinciding with the growing demand for sustainable and multipurpose fabrics.
