Sustainable agriculture policy frameworks: Promoting smallholder resilience and innovation
Jiya Thappa and Dr. Asma Fayaz Lone
Smallholder farmers shape the global food system and rural livelihoods. However, smallholders face persistent challenges like limited access to resources, unstable markets, and uncertainties related to climate. This paper explores policies for innovative agricultural frameworks that can increase smallholder sustainability through resilient farming systems, fair access to inputs and technology, and inclusive participation in markets. The study highlights evidence from cases and policy frameworks to show strategic innovation that has increased productivity, safeguards the environment, and strengthened rural economies for smallholder communities. It is argued that the policy innovation for creating productive policy environments has been primarily related to economic growth in developing countries or shifts toward more ecologically sustainable agriculture, which will ultimately support the level of resilience required for smallholder livelihoods in the long-term.
