Labour migration is a crucial workforce for labour-intensive businesses, driven by factors such as limited local opportunities, environmental challenges and economic necessity. While these movements provide essential labour for industries, migrant workers frequently face precarious working conditions. This study examines the key constraints faced by migrant labourers working in the Purse seine fishing sector in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. Information was collected from 109 migrants working on purse seine fishing in Mirkarwada landing centre of Ratnagiri district. The results revealed that limited rest breaks or overwork, unsafe working conditions, payment delays, competition with other migrants and language barriers were the major constraints faced at workplace by the migrant fishers. Additionally, payment issues, including delayed or insufficient wages, competition with other migrants, language barrier, lack of access to healthcare, etc. were the constraints faced by these migrants. The study suggested to improve the living conditions of the migrant labourers, provide induction and sea safety training on purse seine and have developmental policy for migrant labourers in purse seine sector in Maharashtra state.
