Role of women in decision making pattern in Alambadi breed cattle farming

Alambadi cattle breed, a medium size zebu cattle breed, is an animal genetic resource of North Western zone of Tamil Nadu. Alambadi breed cattle conservation require study on decision making pattern in Alambadi breed cattle farming activities. Hence, the study is conceptualized and purposively carried out at Pennagarm block, Dharmapuri districts of Tamil Nadu. Data, using a well-structured and pre-tested interview schedule, were collected from 60 respondents who were selected using simple random sampling technique from sample universe prepared based on the outreach activities of Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, Dharmapuri. The analysis of collected data revealed that the contribution of women in decision making on animal selection and purchase (18.33%), housing (37.21%), feeding (43.59%), breeding (40.63%), disease management (49.12%), marketing (31.71%), value addition (25.00%), expenditure on dairy farming (53.33%), record keeping (42.86%), savings (68.52%), livestock census (29.17%). The results will be helpful for the policy makers to consider the significance of decision-making pattern in Alambadi breed cattle conservation.
