This study examines the socio-economic and psychological characteristics of sunflower growers in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, India, a prominent area for sunflower cultivation. With a sample of 120 sunflower farmers, the research employs an "ex-post facto" methodology to analyze demographic variables such as age, education, annual income, farming experience, and knowledge of sunflower production. Results indicate that the majority of growers are middle-aged, predominantly educated up to primary school, and belong to the medium income category. Notably, a significant number exhibit high levels of scientific orientation and extension participation, reflecting a willingness to adopt new agricultural technologies. However, the reliance on traditional farming methods and moderate risk orientation points to a cautious approach to innovation. These findings underscore the necessity for targeted educational initiatives and extension support to enhance agricultural practices and productivity. By addressing knowledge gaps and encouraging innovative practices, there is potential to improve sunflower yields and decrease reliance on imports, ultimately contributing to food security in India. This study highlights the importance of fostering a culture of continuous learning among sunflower growers, ensuring they are equipped to adapt to changing agricultural demands and challenges. The insights provided herein are vital for policymakers and agricultural extension services aiming to enhance the economic stability of sunflower farming in India.
