Economics of major farming systems in Chikkamagaluru district

Economics of farming systems in Chikkamagaluru district studied using standard cost concept. A sample of 180 farmers was selected randomly from the Kadur, Ajjampura, Tarikere and Chikkamagaluru tahsils, with the objective, to study the economics of selected farming systems. It was revealed from that present study that, the Field crops + Dairy +Arecanut farming system provides the per farm net returns were maximum of Rs. 422379 with a B:C ratio of 1.53, followed by Field crops + Arecanut farming system of Rs. 274606 accounting to a benefit cost ratio of 1.46. The per farm total cost and gross returns in Field crops + Dairy were Rs. 459991 and Rs.667483, respectively, in case Field crops + Dairy + Goat, the per farm net returns was of Rs. 197498 and in Field crop farming system of Rs 111560. The study suggested that the combination of field crop and allied agriculture activities is needed for increasing the profitability of farming to achieve improving of farmers income.
